By many standards, Thunderstruck is quite an old slot game now. It was released in 2004 by Microgaming, and is still available to be played a whopping 16 years later… but does it stand the test of time?

Thunderstruck is a slot game with a theme based around Nordic mythology – specifically, unsurprisingly, the God of Thunder, Thor. This is a concept that resonates strikingly throughout the game, from the colourful and vivid visuals to the symbols, which include the God of Thunder himself as a wild card, lightning, a hammer, a castle, and Thor’s Fist.
The game was created by Microgaming, which is one of the online casino industry’s most successful providers and developers. With a great range of award-winning games under its belt, Microgaming has come to promise only the best quality gameplay for its dedicated legion of fans around the globe.
Thunderstruck has a good Return to Player (RTP) rate of 96%, which is around the average for a slot game. So even though it’s more than a decade old, this title has always promised players a fair chance at winning! The betting range for this game is 0.01-45.
While Thunderstruck may not boast some of the newer or more advanced features that avid slot players are used to, it does still have a great range of the timeless classics.
First, roll Thor as a substituting symbol in any winning combination and you’ll receive 2x your stake. What else would you expect from having a Nordic God as your wild symbol?
The game also has an electrifying (no pun intended) 3x multiplier that will trigger 15 free spins when 3+ rams appear anywhere on the reels. Before the free spins are initiated, you’re also awarded scatter pays, which are multiplied by the total number of credits that you wager.
There is a bonus round available in-game. This is during the 3x multiplier round mentioned above, during which all wins are tripled. All you have to do is match 3 or more rams on your screen at a single time. Seeing as many modern slots don’t offer any form of bonus round or game, it’s refreshing to see an old-time classic slot such as Thunderstruck offer something instead.
Overall, it seems that Thunderstruck hasn’t really been downgraded over the years. It may not be as exciting or complex as some newer titles offered on the casino market, but it still offers plenty of charm and a good RTP. The addition of the bonus round is welcome too, sealing Thunderstruck’s place in a list of timeless slot games that won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
