You might think you’ve seen just about every take there is on the ancient legends of the Greeks’ most famous warriors, but think again! The Spartians are brave, bold and fearless, they’re about a foot tall and they live on Mars. Confused yet? Don’t worry, these little guys pack a ton of fun gameplay and some amazing prizes into their pint-sized little bodies, and it’s up to you to help them fight off the marauding humans and their robots in this amazing adventure!
So is this game out of this world or does it come up short? Let’s take a look with our Spartians game review!
This game’s developers Genii have a reputation for their fun and inventive slots games, and they definitely live up to the name here. Spartians combines two well-worn slots tropes, ancient warriors and aggressive aliens, and combines them in a way you’ve never seen before. The design is cartoonish and stylish in equal measure, reminiscent of a low budget made for TV movie, and depicts a weird combination of swords and sandals and futuristic space imagery. In the same row, you’ll see a sword and shield, a flying saucer, a NASA-style logo and an ancient Greek banner, and they’ll all help you rack up the cash.
Disappointingly the lower value symbols are still represented by generic J – A images, but the rest of the design looks great, with a rocky planet as the background and a faithful sci-fi soundtrack to back it up. This might sound very cutesy and old school, but don’t be put off, because there are also amazing bonuses and jackpots to be had on the 5×3 reels with 30 paylines. With a maximum bet of £/€/$25 per spin and an RTP of 96.1%, it’s nothing to be sniffed at.
Spartians’ bonus round isn’t the most involved or complicated out there, but it’s extremely generous in its payouts. The first bonus feature you’ll come across is the wild, represented here by a little Spartian decked out in full Hoplite gear, but tiny and green. His appearance in a winning combo will both complete the combo and add a cash bonus to your win, and these wilds are double-height, so they take up two slots for a greater chance to win.
Landing between three and five scatters, a labelled red button, wins you between nine and 18 free spins. This also supercharges your wilds and gives the Spartian some friends to play with, substituting the lone Spartian wild for a small army of Spartians ready for battle. Practically, this means the wilds become triple-height in reels two and four, doubling any wins you manage to construct with them, meaning that landing the satellite symbol with this wild at 500x your stake grants you an amazing 1000x multiplier. If you’re betting high, that means a jackpot of £/€/$25,000.
Spartians is cute, fun and cleverly designed, but this Spartians review was concerned that it’s a bit low rolling during the main game. This all changes during the bonus rounds, where this game’s amazing wilds can be used to rack up huge jackpots pretty easily and without much fuss, going from 0-60 in no time flat!
