Pieces of Eight Game Review

It’s time to splice the mainbrace and shiver your timbers because we’re going back to the golden age of piracy in this slot, which conjures up every pirate cliché in the book to evoke life on the high seas. The graphics aren’t pretty, but since when do pirates care about that?

All that matters is that the gold is good and that the chests are laden with booty. So is Pieces of Eight a prize fit for a pirate king, or is it a tragic wreck? Let’s take a look in our Pieces of Eight review.

Background

We can’t fault Saucify on their attention to detail here, because everything you’d expect from a pirate-themed slot is present and correct: A desert island themed backdrop that changes with the time of day, nautically themed symbols, a world map on the reels. However, the rendering on the symbols themselves is a bit dated and evokes a style that was more common a decade ago. Having said that, at least they designed symbols for both the high and low categories, with everything from compasses, cutlasses, pistols, ships wheels and pirate crew. The big win symbols you’ll be on the lookout for include the skull and crossbones flag, the parrot and the crossed pistols, while the pirate wild fetches an eye-watering 10,000x your stake for five on the reels.

A jaunty nautical theme plays in the background and many of the symbols have sound effects when you complete a combo, which is a nice touch, but also incredibly annoying if you play for any length of time. Luckily you can turn the sound off! The betting limits in this game are quite low, ranging from £/€/$0.25 to £/€/$0.25 per line across the 25 lines available to you, but that is offset by the generous values of the symbols. Overall the RTP works out at 94.9%, which is distinctly average, so it all works out even in the end.

Bonuses

The cannon is the scatter in this game, and landing three of them in the reels will open up the free spins feature. You get 30 off the bat, which is pretty generous, but there’s no multiplier to be seen in this game so it’s potentially less lucrative than in other games. It is possible to re-trigger this feature as many times as you like, however, so there is the potential for a lot of free spins if you’re lucky.

The free spins round hides another bonus which can be triggered by landing three chest symbols, and upon accepting the bonus round you’ll be transported to a desert island beach in front of five treasure chests. The game is simple: Pick a chest and win the cash inside it. It’s simple and quick, and possibly a bit underwhelming, but it’s a nice and easy way to add to your kitty.

Casino77 Verdict

The Pieces of Eight slot game is charming and well thought out, making good use of its pirate theme and really nailing the small details that make the game feel polished and lived in. It’s unfortunate that the graphics aren’t up to much by modern standards, but the symbols pay very generously, and thanks to a large number of re-triggerable re-spins there’s a good chance that you’ll sail your ship away laden with treasure.
