Background
We had expected ELK Studios to play this one safe with its visuals and settle for well established symbols to bring this slot to life, but to be fair to them they went for something a little left field in Joker Gems. The background to this slot sets it firmly in space, with a pretty gas nebula filling the field of view in a variety of colours, speckled with stars that shine through the dust. This is also a slot that’s not afraid to leave gaps, and you’ll see spaces where many slots would give you token very low paying symbols. This means that the rest of the symbols are valuable, and comprise shiny gems of various colours, the lucky 7 and the BAR as well as the Joker herself. Basic animations and an ethereal space soundtrack are also present to help build the atmosphere.
There are a couple of interesting mechanics at play in the Joker Gems slot game, in common with other grid slots out there. Wins are achieved by landing symbols in groups, not lines, so all you have to do is have three or more symbols touching each other to generate a win. Even better, when you do manage to land a winning combo, you’ll get free re-spins for as long as you can keep adding to your little group.
