Diamond Vortex can look a bit intimidating at first glance, but don’t worry, because it’s actually a whole heap of fun wrapped up in a big old hexagon in space. Play N’ Go have brought together a load of interesting and fun game concepts to create a really strange and exciting game in Diamond Vortex, one which we hope will also pad your bank account on the way!
So is Diamond Vortex out of this world, or will space leave you cold? Let’s take a look at our Diamond Vortex review!
The setting of Diamond Vortex is pretty high concept, sitting with a spiral galaxy behind the reels like something out of 2001: A Space Odyssey, but it all starts to look more familiar as you play. Space rocks and space crystals make up the symbols, and the latter are actually cunningly disguised fruits, so look closely and you’ll see bananas, oranges, strawberries and lemons up there among the stars. Half the fun of this game is the space-age action on the reels as the twist and transform, which is all ably pulled together by a driving futuristic soundtrack and appropriately futuristic sound effects as symbols appear, spin and disappear while you play. The animations are also smooth and pleasant to watch, so you might even forget you’re playing a slot!
Despite looking complicated, the Diamond Vortex slot game is more or less just a standard cascading reels slot in a funny shape, though there are some twists and turns we’ll need to explain. Wins are made by landing symbols in adjacent clusters, which makes the paytable look like a decent sized book, but we’ll simplify it by saying that the yellow rock pays least at 10x your stake for 6 and 1000x for more than 35. By contrast, the high paying red crystal starts at 100x and tops out at a massive 10,000x. There’s a wild at the centre of the vortex which absorbs wilds that land adjacent to it, adding to a multiplier that is applied to your wins generated on a single cascade spin, while after each winning cascade the rings of the vortex will spin in different directions and drop symbols down the gaps to be closer to the middle. With a maximum bet of £/€/$100 and an RTP of 96.2%, it’s easy to see how those big payouts and multipliers can add up to some pretty tasty prizes!
After all that excitement, you’ll be pleased to know the bonuses are pretty simple and are basically passive parts of the gameplay rather than separate rounds. The first of these is the concept of spots and zones. Spots are highlighted symbols while zones are dark holes in the grid, and when the rings spin so that they meet there is a reaction! It causes all of the symbols in the ring where they met to transform into a random identical symbol, potentially generating huge wins at random. There’s also a traditional free spins game activated when a bonus symbol meets a zone, granting you five free spins that keep your multiplier intact and don’t let it drop even on a non-winning spin. This means you can easily notch it up to the 20x maximum and grab some massive prizes!
Diamond Vortex brings some freaky looking new concepts down to earth, and while you may be confused at first it’s actually quite easy to get into, and a lot of fun as well! Big prizes await those lucky enough to land big clusters, and thanks to the multipliers there are plenty of chances to boost even lower scores too!
