Petrol heads and those with a spot of wanderlust will love the look of Road Trip Max Ways as the game takes on a fun visual theme, but does it have enough going on in the backend to keep players coming back?
Road Trip Max Ways takes place on a 5×3 playboard that is packed with people and items that you would probably come across as you make your way through Route 66, such as friendly truckers, fellow road-trippers, and, of course, an American diner milkshake.
One thing to bear in mind with this slot is that we were unable to dig out the Returns To Player (RTP) stats during our examinations and test sessions. This doesn’t necessarily make it a “bad” slot, but we recommend exercising caution on your opening session while you get a feel for the regularity of wins. That said, our sessions brought in a fairly steady stream of small wins and we got very good value out of our testing budget.
To collect yourself a win or two, players just need to pick up at least three matching symbols along one of the game’s nine paylines. These range from low-paying coffee and donut symbols, right through to top-tier waitresses, drivers and trucks, with the last one in particular paying a rather juicy 7500x multiplier if you can pick up five in one spin.
Visually speaking, Road Trip Max Ways is a little bit rough around the edges but I think that’s kinda the point. The concept wouldn’t be particularly authentic if you coupled a roadside diner with pristine playing characters, so the design has been intricately carried out by the game’s designers, Saucify. There isn’t much of a soundtrack to speak of although there is a semi-regular appearance from an electric guitar, but you may have to source your own music if you fancy a bit of head-banging during your session.
If you’re just a few matching symbols short of a win your saving grace can often be found by the red saloon car that acts as the game’s wild symbol that appears on the 2nd and 4th reels of the playboard. The wild works in tandem with all other symbols (aside from scatters) to generate some tasty multipliers. If you’re a fan of scatter wins (and let’s face it, who isn’t?!) you’ll want to keep a keen eye out for the Route 66 road sign that is never too far away from the action…
It’s a tricky one, because Road Trip Max Ways, on the face of it, looks like a fun game that very much has its own unique charm, but beneath the surface there isn’t a huge amount going on under the bonnet. The bonus features leave a lot to be desired, while the visual concept could be turned up a notch or two. But what do I know – give Road Trip Max Ways a go yourself and see what you think!
